Here is the center of finance and commerce and also the site of the original settlement. Most of the city’s important museums and colonial buildings are here. Two wide avenues cross the center: Avenida Rio Branco and Avenida Presidente Vargas. The main airlines offices are here, as foreign consulates, Brazilian government agencies, money exchange houses, banks and travel agencies. Most banks and airline offices have their headquarters on Avenida Rio Branco.
